“一国两制”是中国特有些政治规范，翻译为“One country, two systems”。但大家的“十一国庆节”却翻译为“National Day”。
“国”到底是“country”还是“nation”？或者还有其他的表达？
大家的汉语中，只有“国家与区域”，其中“国家”是指“主权国家”，“区域”是指“没主权的政治体”，一般都是殖民地、属地和推广托管地。所以，中华人民共和国是“国家”，港澳台是“区域”，美国是“国家”，波多黎各和关岛是“区域”。
然而在英语里，可翻译成国家的词有三个：country, nation和state。
Country

Nation
Wikipedia: A nation is a large group or collective of people with common characteristics attributed to them — including language, traditions, mores, habitus , and ethnicity.
“nation”指生活在某一土地上的族群，是某一特定人群在某种文化意义上的一同体。他们有着一同的一些特点，譬如语言、传统、风俗等。
大家平常说的“民族”、“国族”、“中华民族”就是如此一种”nation”的定义。

● The Chinese are a nation of hardworking.中国人是一个勤劳的民族。
State
Wikipedia: State , an organized community living under a single political structure and government, sovereign or constituent.
“State”指的是一个国家的“政府、政权”。● One may feel the social, economic, and political pulse of the state.
其他人都可以感觉到这个国家的社会，经济和政治的脉搏。
● A state has its obligations to protect people.政府有义务保护它的人民。
总而言之，” country” 是地理和国土上的定义；”nation”是从民族和国民层面上而言；而”state”是政治和政权上的意思。大家和”nation”, “country”之间是先天的，自然的纽带关系，大家爱国，这是一种淳朴的感情。而大家和”state”之间则是契约的关系，大家让渡一些权利，组成政府，由其提供公共服务来保护和服务大家。
